Hi, I'm considering grad school. My overall GPA is a little above average, but my last two years show a lot of improvement. However, there are a few requisite classes which I need for one particular program. I want to improve my chances of being accepted. Would it be advisable to retake these courses to improve my GPA? I already have a Bachelor's degree. Any advice would be great.
I think it'd be more beneficial for you to study hard for the GREs and make sure you do very well on those. I think these are very important indicators used by grad schools to compare applicants, more so than the GPA from your undergrad studies, the schools and programs are so different they don't look only at the GPA. Besides, you might get whoever writes you a letter of recommendation to slip in you had a bit of a time adjusting to college but did very well towards the end, once you were better adjusted, and your transcript will also rflect this.
Taking a few courses to feel more sure of your subject material is something you could do, but for admission purposes I think good recommendations and GREs are your strongest bet.
Agreed. I totally changed fields of study between my undergrad and grad school days. I was a music major, and my master's is in rehab counseling. They weren't interested.
